Petone Patio Refresh
Lower Hutt, Wellington
2016
This Petone property began as a flat lawn with winding paths but lacked any true spaces for entertaining. The client’s brief was clear: create multiple seating areas for different times of the day, a space for evening cooking and cocktails, and a spa pool.
Groundbreakers transformed the section with a large deck off the house, complete with built-in seating and hidden storage. The deck connects to a new herb planter and paved pathway that leads to an entertainer’s kitchen beneath a pergola with a clear polycarbonate roof for year-round use. Bamboo panels provide a lush backdrop for planting while softening the boundary fencing.
Beneath the pergola sits a cedar hot tub, while a converted garden shed now serves as a quirky outdoor bar with a leaner and serving window. Throughout the garden, subtle lighting enhances the night-time atmosphere. A commissioned Frida Kahlo artwork adds character along the garage wall, and tiered decking and paving help define distinct entertaining zones.
